Beschermde Roemeen

Roemenië heeft zijn 52e beschermde wijn gekregen. De Europese commissie verleende de PDO-status aan însuatei in het zuid-oosten van het land. De status is vergelijkbaar met die van een AOC. In Roemenië zijn er daar nu 38 van. Bovendien zijn er nog 14 beschermde streekwijnen (PGI en GI). De collega’s melden:

 

The new protected wine is produced in Brăila county, in southeastern Romania, and can be white, red or rosé. The European Commission states that the vineyard has ancient origins has has done much in recent years to boost its ecological credentials with the aid of EU funding.

As such, the vineyard is also certified as organic, according to a statement by the European Commission in Romania.

The vineyard joins 38 other PDO-registered Romanian wines, bringing the total number of EU-protected Romanian wines (PDO, PGI and GI) to 52.

The EU protects over 1,750 wines which are listed on its e-bacchus database. France has the most PDO wines, with around 380.
