Weer fraude met Romanée

Er zijn de laatste tijd drie flessen groot formaat Domaine de la Romanée Conti op veilingen te koop gekomen, waarvan er inmiddels maar één als echt wordt beschouwd. Eén fles is inmiddels uit de verkoop gehaald. En een andere al verkochte is teruggenomen en vergoed.

In September, a 6-liter format of the 2002 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti was sold at an auction held by Acker Hong Kong for $398,400. Another 6-liter of the 2000 vintage – from the same consignor – was then offered for sale at a sale on November 6, prompting California-based wine fraud expert and lawyer Don Cornwell to cry foul. "That world record Methuselah of 2002 Romanée-Conti was, in my opinion, for the reasons explained below, clearly a counterfeit bottle," Cornwell wrote on the Wine Berserkers website. "Just like its predecessor, the 2000 vintage 6-liter bottle shared the same defects and was also (in my opinion) clearly counterfeit. The real mystery here is how did these two bottles ever get offered in the first place?"
